Other option, using the Engenius EOC2610 (cheaper, but also lower-rated weatherproofing): Engenius 2610 $80 ish http://www.keenansystems.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=251 Internal 10db panel antenna. I'm using that for the marina side. Differences between the 2610 and the 3610
Mac and boat electronicsMacENC is pretty much what you need for charts/navigation software. Pair with a USB antenna ( http://www.gpsnavx.com/MacENC/index.php?page=Compatibility , scroll to the bottom). Make sure you get the drivers MacENC recommends, the prolific driver or read here: http://www.gpsnavx.com/help/connectinggps.htm For more info, check out the mac sailing forums. For charts, look for Jim's sailing server. Decent thread on a Mac Mini on-board! Seems people are also installing these in cars (gooogle it.) |
RSSI is about 50-65% from my boat using the 3610 with included antenna, and ActionTek with an external antenna at the "lounge".
Distance from "lounge" to pumphouse is about 280 feet. Pumphouse to boat is about 360 feet. Lounge to boat about 500 feet. See attachment.
Manufacturer claims 18miles LOS between two 2610s. Real world I've heard 4-5 miles. OF course, there are lotsa trees in the way here…
uploaded another attachment: shows the google earth overview with GPS waypoints: i tried to take about 5 waypoints per location to average out. As can be seen, something is a few feet off: either the GPS, the map overlay, or the depicted location of the cabin?
